Good Things Jar

Enjoy the little things, for one day you will look back and realize that they were the big things.” ~ Robert Brault

I wrote about starting a “Good Things Jar” back in December 2012 (  In a spurt of enthusiasm, I started it the same day.  Since then, I have been adding little notes about good things as and when they happen in my life, and things that I am grateful for.  Little A added a couple of notes of her own (hmmmm… need to get the other bums in the family to tune in as well).  Peeking into the jar nine months later (who said I should wait until New Year’s eve to open it?), I see only a handful of notes at the bottom of the jar.  To be expected, since I have only remembered this jar off and on.  More off than on, as it usually happens with such ideas.  ANYWAY.  Here’s what’s in my Good Things Jar so far (ooooh, that rhymes!):

  • Today we made a gingerbread house. It tasted so good! (Little A, December 2012)
  • N rushing to make tea more for me after I poured Miralax into mine by accident. (December 2012)
  • Little N’s incredible talent and hard work to make the yummy gingerbread house. (December 2012)
  • Little A’s good heart for sharing the only gingerbread cookie left with her Dad without a minute’s hesitation. (December 2012)
  • Unforgettable trip to Costa Rica.  Pura vida! (December 2012)
  • Busy day at work today.  Didn’t have time to make snack for the little cats.  Went straight from the school bus to “It’s a Grind” and “Red Berry”.  Girls loved the snacks that they picked out.  Watching them made me smile too. (December 2012)
  • Fantastic chole bhatura from Udipi for lunch at 3 pm, after a long cold day out at a client site (December 2012)
  • January is so fun! In school, we get to make letters.  Not actual letters, the letters you write on paper.  It is so fun! (Little A, January 2013)
  • How N helps me out in the mornings even when he is running late. (March 2013)
  • Vacation in France, oooooh la la! (March 2013)
  • Little A’s delightful, poised performance at her first piano concert. (May 2013)
  • Watching the girls and their friends at play. (May 2013)
  • Playground time with little A. (May 2013)
  • The fantastic AFAR magazine. (June 2013)
  • Yoga class with Amma early on a saturday morning. (July 2013)
  • My little Good Things Jar. (August 2013)
  • Little A’s bharatnatyam class. (September 2013)
  • Camaraderie with the other moms in little A’s bharatnatyam class. (September 2013)
  • Listening to the munchkins talk at bedtime about how their day went. (September 2013)
  • The new Mithaas on Finnegans Lane. (September 2013)
  • Shooting hoops with Little N. (August 2013)
  • Silver starfish earrings from N for my birthday. (August 2013)
  • Little N’s responsible nature and little A’s playfulness. (September 2013)
  • Biking with the family on a lovely saturday morning. (September 2013)
  • Amma’s yummy bisibela. (September 2013)
  • Little N giving her friend a gift card for her birthday, even without us asking her to. (September 2013)
  • My gorgeous mini thaali, thanks to my friend R for designing it and having it made!! (September 2013)
  • Late night movie time with Amma and N. (September 2013)
  • The stranger’s smile, when I let her go ahead of me at the check-out lane at Trader Joe’s. (September 2013)
  • Little A’s delight and big hugs, when I surprised her with “parent pick up” instead of letting her take the bus home as usual. (September 2013)

Not bad, huh?  Although, looks like I remembered the little jar more in September than during the rest of the year.  Here’s to more memory, more memories, and overflowing the Good Things Jar in 2013!

Gratitude is a wonderful thing. 🙂
