I am Back, Baby!

We got back from India last night at 8:30 pm.  Our flight was around 6 hours late – after circling over Vermont for hours and trying to figure out whether to land in Boston, JFK, or the actual destination, Newark.

Everything that could go wrong did on this return journey (but I won’t get into the details right now, I am exhausted just thinking about it).  The tournament carrom board that we bought to spice up our game night get togethers didn’t make it with the rest of our luggage.  Hopefully, Jet Airways will find it within the week.

The girls and I woke up and breakfasted (on toast, eggs, oatmeal, berries, and tea) at 4:30 am.  Not too shabby for jet lag, but we’ll see how we hold up today (N – determined to beat jet lag as quickly as possible – is holding out and not giving in to crazy early waking up like the rest of us).

August in India this year was way hotter than usual.  Still, I would rate this as a really good trip.  We met with our extended family (more N’s than mine due to a Centenary Celebration that was being held at N’s), didn’t meet with any friends at all (v. bad), spent a lot of time with the two moms and the kids’ cousins, had fun at family parties, set off fireworks, ate out a bunch of times (with varying degrees of enjoyment and tummy pain that followed), shopped for jewellery and kurtis (that sometimes looked much worse when tried on at home after purchasing, than at store), bought suitcase loads of books, sneezed and wheezed some, sweated a LOT, braved daily power outages (including one mammoth 8-hour power outage stint), and lost a few pounds despite all the eating (that would be me (11 lb lower than on January 4th – wooohooo!) and little A, who was sick).

My Singaara Chennai.  I can’t wait to go back next year. 🙂
